The Opportunity

As the company continues to grow, we are seeking a Blood Banking Technologist that will participate in product validation projects, perform root cause investigations of product failure and non-conformance investigations of moderate complexity. Maintain laboratory equipment and perform support functions for the laboratory. This position is located in Pompano Beach, FL.

The Responsibilities

  • Lead project qualifications and validations of a moderate complexity. Prepare basic reports, including protocols, testing analysis, and summary reports.

  • Under general supervision, plan, design, and perform diagnostic assay activities towards root cause investigations of product failures, nonconformances, and customer complaints.

  • Initiate change requests and associated change documents for project validations and product improvement studies. Create, revise, and approve controlled documents as required.

  • Maintain the Product Support Laboratory; including laboratory equipment calibrations/PMs and general laboratory maintenance duties.

  • Provide technical support for on-going Process Improvement Projects, including but not limited to, supplier obsolescence, supplier changes to raw materials, and changes to internal testing procedure/processes.

  • Participate in scientific meetings that may require presentation and analysis of technical findings. Includes working cross-departmentally within micro typing systems (MTS) or other Ortho locations.

  • Maintain working knowledge of cGMP requirements to ensure adherence to compliance policies and regulations. Wear the appropriate PPE when working in the laboratory and manufacturing environments. Proactively maintain a clean and safe work environment by performing sanitizing and housekeeping duties.

  • Carry out duties in compliance with all state and federal regulations and guidelines including FDA, TUV, EPA and OSHA. Knowledge of 21CFR Part 820 and ISO 9001 standards.

  • Assist in internal and external audit preparation and participation, as needed.

The Individual

  • Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology or related science.

  • Minimum 2 years' clinical laboratory experience or minimum 2 years' experience associated with operations or manufacturing of a FDA regulated product.

  • Demonstrated laboratory knowledge and skills related to theory, techniques, processes, procedures, equipment and materials necessary to perform the job effectively.

  • Ability to demonstrate flexibility and adaptability.

  • Ability to prioritize within a changing business environment.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to complete work within a pre-defined timeline and demonstrate a sense of urgency.

  • Proficient in the use of lab equipment. Strong troubleshooting ability of the equipment.

  • Basic computer skills i.e. Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).

  • Ability to work both independently and within a team environment.

  • ASCP or AABB Certification preferred.

  • State Laboratorian License preferred.

  • Experience in Blood Banking preferred.
